Using the power of Cloud computing to backup your photos, videos, documents and other files

With the advent of cloud computing it is quite possible to store your files such as  photos, documents and videos online. Gone are days where you needed a lot of space on your hard disk.

Where do I store photos online as a backup?
flickr_logoThere are a variety of sites that allow you to upload photos. You can also mark these photos as private so that only you can view them. Most notable among photo sharing sites is Yahoo's Flickr and Google's Picasa.

Also there is Facebook, where you can upload your photos and mark the entire album as private so that only you can be able to view it.

How do I store videos online as a backup?
The best place to store videos is  Google's YouTube. As in Facebook, videos can also be marked as private. This article from YouTube's help center is very useful to make Youtube videos as private.



Flickr too allows videos, however the video upload limit is limited. Facebook too allows a user to upload videos.

How do I store documents online as a backup?

How do I store files online?
The best option is Microsoft Skydrive which offers 25 GB of free online storage. Google comes next with free 1 GB storage in Google docs. Other options include Rapidshare, Megaupload and Hotfile, but they are not as feature rich.
